A a NJ Newborn Photographer, a Newborn Home Session is one of my favorite sessions to capture! These sessions may also be referred to as “Lifestyle Newborn Sessions”, “In-Home Newborn Sessions”, or to get really specific “Lifestyle Newborn In-Home Sessions”! But they all mean the same thing!
These sessions take place in the comfort of your own home. This is where baby is at his or her most natural and comfortable environment! Zero traveling is required for the family, which is great for a likely very sleepy and tired Mom and Dad! (I feel you new parents out there! Fun fact: a great resource on baby sleep that has helped me with my first child was TakingCaraBabies!)
Lifestyle Photography is a very relaxed form of photography art and it can apply to just about any photography genre- business, family, product marketing, etc. It is a combination of posed, as well as unposed, natural, and candid images. For a Lifestyle Newborn Session, babies are not typically naked for long periods of time and posed by themselves like you may see during a traditional Studio Newborn Session. Instead, Mom, Dad, and occasionally a sibling will most likely be holding the baby! Of course, I will make sure to capture some images of your baby solo!
So, I LIVE for candids!!! And that is mainly the reason why I love Lifestyle Photography because it is SO relaxed. Many times in my session, I will prompt parents to interact with their baby, i.e., kiss their forehead or talk to your baby, so that we can incite those sweet, unscripted moments that melt every mom and dad’s heart!! And trust me, as a Mom of 2, I have lot of prompts!
Typically, these sessions take place during the early morning, or a couple of hours before sunset in the late afternoon. This is to ensure that we are working with as much natural light coming into the home as possible.
All of my Home Sessions (Newborn, New-Home, Family, Holiday) typically run from a minimum of one hour up to two hours. If baby needs a diaper change, needs to be fed, or simply just needs a break, there will be plenty of time for all of that which is why I structure my session this way! The LAST thing I want you to do is worry! Especially, that you won’t get “enough good shots. You will. 😉 Just show up and enjoy your baby as I capture your beautiful family! I got you!
You can schedule your baby’s Lifestyle Home Session whenever you want, wether your baby is five days old or five months old. They don’t technically have to be a newborn, but yes, they are the smallest and sleepiest during this time which is why many moms like to schedule within the first few weeks of baby’s life. However, every mother’s journey from pregnancy to motherhood is SO unique, and so I totally understand that that may not be the most appropriate or feasible time for all moms. And I especially understand the concern with the pandemic! (Writing this in 2021, guys!)
Just keep in mind that the older they are the more aware and social they become. So we may capture more images with baby interacting versus the sleepy, quiet photos that you would typically see when they are a newborn. And that is perfectly okay! Every season of that baby’s life will come with its own unique moments! I just highly recommend you try to schedule something under their One Year Old milestone, as they do grow up so fast!
Absolutely not! As your Lifestyle Family Photographer, I have no limitation as to when you want your family photos taken. Again, every stage of your child’s life will be so unique. As toddlers, they learn and do different things, such as how to walk, eat, or wave “Hello”. This is SUCH a fun age and I will make sure to highlight any new skills or milestones that they have reached at this stage!
It would be an honor to capture such a special time for you and your baby’s life! As a mother of two babies, I understand alllll the feels of wanting to capture every moment with them! Please fill out my contact form so that we can get you started!
I will be sharing more blogs about “What To Wear” or “How To Prepare” for your Newborn Home Session, so make sure to follow me on Instagram for when they are release! @maryrosevegaphotography
